March 2012
Young people from Subotica had recently had the opportunity to participate in a team building training organized by their peers and supported by the LDA on 17th and 18th March. During the two days of the training participants were through games, exercises, discussion and lectures acquainted with a number of subjects including problems and advantages of working in a team, good sides and disadvantages of groups with classic leaderships and the importance of voice intonation.
Moreover young people had the opportunity to engage in a discussion about different ways of communication, how to deal with "difficult" people when working in a group and on the importance of flexibility of choice in communication methods. Besides that, they had a chance to learn some forms of assertive criticizing and complimenting and through a discussion exchange their experience in working within a group. Training was held by young local volunteers with an EVS volunteer from France.
A special thank you is forwarded to the participants of the training and bakery "Nikola" which was the sponsor, and provided the participants with lunch.

Subotica is a multicultural city. It has three official languages: Hungarian, Serbian and Croatian. On the one hand, Serbian and Croatian are very similar and almost totally mutually understandable. On the other hand, Hungarian’s syntax, grammar and vocabulary are very different from Serbian and Croatian and needs a high level of motivation to be learned by adult non-native Hungarian speakers.
It leads to the fact that speaking about the languages we can see two main groups: on the one hand Serbian and Croatian speakers and on the other hand Hungarian speakers. Nowadays, the language barrier between these two groups is quite big.
